Bumrungrad International Hospital, a global leader in healthcare, today announced the development of Bumrungrad International Hospital Phuket, a state-of-the-art medical and wellness facility strategically located on the island. The project, with an investment of over THB 4.3 billion, is set to redefine premium healthcare in the region and establish Phuket as a leading Medical and Wellness Destination, with its first phase scheduled to open in mid-2027.

Situated on a 16.5-rai plot of land less than 10 minutes from Phuket International Airport, the hospital is designed to be a “hospital of the future.” It will integrate Bumrungrad’s 45-year legacy of clinical excellence with the innovative preventive and longevity medicine of its VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center. The facility will launch with 120 beds in its first phase, eventually expanding to a 212-bed capacity, serving as a luxury secondary care hospital within Bumrungrad’s network.

Artirat Charukitpipat, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Bumrungrad International Hospital, emphasized the project’s strategic importance. “This is more than an expansion; it is a key part of our vision to create a world-class Medical and Wellness Destination, fully aligned with the Thai government’s policy to promote the nation’s medical and wellness economy,” she stated. “We are creating a complete ecosystem of care that combines advanced medical treatment with personalized, preventive health services. Bumrungrad Phuket will serve as the central ‘Andaman Hub,’ providing accessible, world-class care to our existing clients in Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Surat Thani, who previously had to travel to Bangkok for complex treatments.”

The hospital will operate on a “Hub and Spoke” model, where patients with highly complex conditions requiring advanced surgery can be seamlessly transferred to the main hospital in Bangkok, ensuring a continuum of care at the highest level.

Phuket’s robust economy and premium demographics make it the ideal location for this strategic investment. Napas Paorohitya, Chief Marketing Officer of Bumrungrad International Hospital, highlighted the island’s powerful market potential.

“Phuket is a truly premium market, driven by two powerful forces: a local community of over 400,000 Thai residents with high purchasing power, and a thriving international community of 115,000 expatriates, who account for 27% of the island’s population,” explained Ms. Paorohitya. “The island’s Gross Provincial Product (GPP) per capita is 62% higher than the national average. This, combined with the presence of 13 international schools and a booming luxury real estate market, confirms a significant, unmet demand for high-standard, trusted healthcare for the entire family.”

Following the post-COVID recovery, Phuket International Airport has seen a resurgence, with nearly 10 million passenger arrivals, split evenly between domestic and international travelers. This reinforces the island’s position as a critical gateway for medical tourism, a market Bumrungrad is uniquely positioned to lead.

Construction of the hospital is well underway, with piling having commenced in February 2025. To support the facility’s operations and staff, Bumrungrad has also acquired an additional 6 rai of land nearby for staff residences.
